Kellystravels Blog LaPaz, Bolivia and 1982
When my kids were growing up un South America, I would always take the to the local parks so they could run, have fun, and learn new things. There is, however, a dangerous park just out side of LaPaz, Bolivia that is barren and unique in appearance (comparable to the moon) because it has thousands of fissures that are about 3 feet wide and go deep down, 20 to 50 feet. You have to stay alert on the trail to be careful you don’t fall into one. One afternoon I decided to walk the full trail with my son Paul and while almost finishing the trail, to my terrible surprise, the trail led to a bridge that only had one log on it! It looked like a tree trunk that had fallen to the other side as the other half was missing having rotted out. It was about 20 feet long and the stream below was a drop off of more than 100 feet. I could not return because it was getting dark and past that ‘bridge’ the main road was only another 5 minutes. I took the risk and my son and I sat on the log and scooted across to the other side. A few inches at a time I was squeezing him tightly and my legs too were gripping with my full force. Later, I contemplated, what was I thinking?! I put myself and my 2 year old son in danger as it seems my only focus was to return before dark. I attribute God’s protection to being our keeper! His angels do seem to watch over us especially when we are in a life and death situation.
